Is Your Light Under Construction?

During my devotional time, I recently came across a familiar scripture, Matthew 5:14a NIV, which says, “You are the light of the world.” It further reads in Matthew 5:16b “…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

“Goodness!” I thought. “My ‘light’ has not been reflecting any good deeds for awhile.” In fact, it resembled more of a broken headlight than a Godly beam. You see Beloved, lately I had been murmuring and complaining about the less than desirable aspects of my job, lack of finances, and everything else in between. In other words, instead of walking by faith, I had become overwhelmed by the pressures and disappointments of everyday life.

As Daughters of Christ, our behavior should draw people to the Lord, not stir them away from Him. My self-centered antics certainly left a lot to be desired. Even worst, my constant state of negativity had begun to affect how I interacted with others. This occurs when our hope is no longer feed by our faith in God, but by the limitation of our circumstance.

After repenting and asking for forgiveness, I began to understand that we must never allow ourselves to become blinded by worldly struggles. For instance, that supervisor or significant other’s recently hurtful behavior, unfavorable job duties, rude church folks or clients, or maybe it’s your rapidly diminishing checking account balance.

Whatever may be blocking your light, Sweet Sister, be encouraged for the Lord promises us in Isaiah 42:16 NIV, “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.”

If your light is under construction like mine was, simply say the following prayer in order regain your unique spiritual glow:

Heavenly Father, I confess that I have recently taken on a murmuring spirit. I have been complaining about things that others would consider a blessing. I repent of my sin and ask that you will forgive me. Please Lord, repair my light so that it will illuminate with the splendor of Your Magnificent Grace. May it burn so brightly that the silhouette of the Holy Spirit shines through it no matter what challenges I encounter in life. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
