What Are You Chasing?

Storm Chasers have been around for a number of years. The first recorded instance was in 1956 when David Hoadley began tracking thunderous rainstorms in his native state of North Dakota. I would venture to say, all of us have chased after something, at least once. Many have run after fame and fortune while others want a more rustic lifestyle. Then there are those who only desire peace versus the ones who live for drama.   A lot of people thrive on playing games whereas countless others are desperate for love.

What have I been guilty of chasing, you may wonder? To be honest, the list is too long to name. However, there is one thing that I struggled with until recently. It is living to please people, not God. This was the mindset that caused me to share my time with folks that I didn’t like, attend events that I wanted to avoid, and spend money that I didn’t really have. All for the sake of having people to accept me. Well guess what I found out the hard way?   No matter how much precious time or money you give, living to impress people is not worth it. It’s more important to just be yourself. The genuine bunch will appreciate you.  On the other hand, the negative individuals will resent the fact that they can’t control you. Either way, I am ever so grateful that I finally learned that Jesus Christ is the only one worth chasing.

My dear sister, perhaps, you, too, have sought the wrong things in life; maybe you still do? If so, beloved, we can always change for the better. Even in 2015, our God is still the CEO of Miracles. He is simply waiting for many of us to choose a path that will eventually lead us to His heavenly residence. Acts 17:27 NIV reminds us to, “seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each of us.”

Isn’t it comforting to know that regardless of where we started, or how many dead ends we’ve encountered, it’s never too late to turn towards our Savior. It doesn’t matter what we’ve previously chased after. It could have been a man, money, someone else’s job, designer labels, etc.   Whether we sprint, jog or crawl towards our Holy Creator, we will always end up at the finish line of victory.
